Change #
Virpi Pahkinen’s Change was premiered at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm, on April 21, 2023. It concists of five pieces of music of equal duration, composed by five different composers, and these are chosen randomly to be combined with different choreograpies and lighting at the start of the performance.
My piece Change 12:58 was based on material from a streamed live concert performed at CCTV Sthlm during the Covid19 pandemic, in March 2021. The music was composed for and played on a small Buchla 200e system, controlled and processed through a self-developed system, written in SuperCollider.
The final edit of this piece was included in Sounding Future’s “Curated by” section, selected by EMS Stockholm. For this release, I also made a version in 7th order Ambisonics, available for binaural listening on the same page.
Grains #
Grains is danced musical performance and collaboration between me, flamenco dancer Sofia Castro and recorder player Anna Petrini. Three expressions are found on stage: flamenco dance, double bass and electronic music. During an intense hour, flamenco dance, the double bass recorder and electronic music coexist and intertwine. Polyphony impregnated by the idea that through unexpected encounters spaces are created that we have not inhabited before: Castro with flamenco shoes, Petrini with Paetzold contrabass recorder, Petersson with electronic instruments.
Where is the border between dance and music? The three artists are each creator of their “voice”. They will be separate from each other and intimately linked.
Grains was supported by Musikverket and premiered at Dunkers Kulturhus in Helsingborg, Sweden, in March 2020.

Nightlife #
A collaboration with Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley and their dance company StegEtt/Scentrifug premiered in 2005 at Färgfabriken, Stockholm. This was the beginning of a long-term collaboration that resulted in six performances. For Nightlife, the music was selected from my albums Mimer and Shells, edited for the show.
Here, the choreography was made in close collaboration with video works by artist Fredrik Wretman, and the show explored sleep and the nocturnal and dreamlike states of mind.

Paradise? #
A collaboration with Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley and their dance company StegEtt/Scentrifug premiered in 2006 at Moderna Dansteatern, Stockholm. This was our first collaboration in which i composed an original score for the whole show.
The performance focuses on our search for utopia, and how we fail or get dissapointed in our ambitions.

Untitled Partner #
A collaboration with Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley and their dance company StegEtt/Scentrifug premiered in 2007 in the old torpedo basins at Moderna Dansteatern, Stockholm.
The choreographers, who also were the two dancers in the performance, described Untitled Partner as a study in partnership, and how we deal with concepts of me, you, and self. In the music, I conceptualized this by means of a drone, symbolizing the me, articulated by rhythms, timbral shifts, and a foreign artefact, in the form of a sonic object, lurking in the background.
The music for Untitled Partner was later edited and released as the album Artefact under my alias Codespira1 on Moving Furniture Records.

No Mans Land, No Lands Man #
A collaboration with Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley and their dance company StegEtt/Scentrifug, and with Andreas Söderberg and Björn Eriksson of Moment 22 Film and Video premiered in 2009 at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Stockholm.
The performance is described by the choreographers as “a playful look into a potential time where there was a lack of consciousness”.

Flux #
FLUX was a collaboration with the dance company Scentrifug (Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley), and premiered in November 2008 at Färgfabriken, Stockholm, in collaboration with Moderna Dansteatern.
Selected parts of the music was later edited for the split vinyl release ~flux=[\sh, \flx, nil, \dflx]; on Geiger Grammofon that came out in 2011 as a limited edition of 20 handmade copies.
